Dental Crown Cost

A crown caps a damaged or weakened tooth to protect and restore it. It's typically a single fee per crown, and unlike cosmetic work, insurance often helps because a crown is usually medically necessary. Here's the structure and how coverage tends to work.

Fee structure

The table below shows how dental crown cost is structured and where the Virginia Dental Club discount applies. Where a figure isn’t listed, we give you the exact number at your visit, after an exam, so it reflects your actual mouth rather than a generic estimate.

What insurance covers

Because a crown is usually medically necessary rather than cosmetic, many dental plans cover a share, often around half after your deductible, up to your annual maximum. We verify your plan and tell you the out-of-pocket cost before we start.

Financing and ways to save

For larger treatment, we offer financing that spreads the cost into monthly payments instead of one lump sum, and many procedures are HSA- and FSA-eligible. Patients without insurance can join Virginia Dental Club: $279 a year for an individual. Your membership includes two cleanings, two routine exams, one problem-focused emergency exam, and your X-rays at no charge each membership year. Most other services are 20% off our standard fee. We'll walk through every option at your visit.

Why we publish our fees

Most dental offices won't put a number in writing until you're in the chair. We think that's backwards. Knowing the honest range before you commit lets you plan, compare, and decide without pressure. Your exact fee still depends on your mouth, we confirm it after an exam and any needed imaging, but you'll never get a surprise on the bill, and you'll always know the number before we begin.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Does insurance usually help with a crown?
Often, yes. Because crowns restore function and protect a tooth, many plans cover a portion, commonly about half after the deductible, up to your annual maximum. We verify your specific benefits first.
Is a crown after a root canal a separate cost?
Yes. The root canal saves the tooth, and the crown protects it afterward, so they're two steps with two fees. We do both in-house and explain the full cost up front.
What does the Virginia Dental Club save on a crown?
Virginia Dental Club members get 20% off our standard fee for crowns. Virginia Dental Club is a membership plan administered by Membersy LLC, not insurance. There is nothing to file, no waiting period, and no annual maximum.
